105-Degree Heat Index On The Way To PA

A heat wave that will bring temperatures that feel as hot as 105 degrees is on the way to Eastern Pennsylvania early next week. The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook, saying heat indices will peak between 100 and 105 degrees on Monday and Tuesday afternoon.

A Heat Advisory may be needed, the NWS said.

The worst of the heat is likely to be on Monday, while temperatures ramp up on Sunday, according to AccuWeather. The heat has the potential to break records Monday, according to Accuweather.

The record high temperature for Philadelphia on June 18 is 96 degrees set in 1957. The record high for June 19 is 100, set in 1994.

Residents should plan ahead for hot weather and take some precautions to stay safe. Here are some tips from Ready.gov:

• Find air conditioning.
• Avoid strenuous activities.
• Watch for heat illness.
• Wear light clothing.
• Check on family members and neighbors, especially the elderly.
• Drink plenty of fluids.
• Watch for heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.
• Never leave people or pets in a closed car.

Monday: Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 97. Light southwest wind increasing to 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon.

Tuesday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 93. Chance of precipitation is 50%.
