5 Arrested At Newtown Bypass DUI Checkpoint

The St. Patrick's Day checkpoint on the Newtown Bypass resulted in five arrests.

Five people were arrested at a St. Patrick’s Day DUI checkpoint on the Newtown Bypass, according to police.

Newtown Township Police held the checkpoint from 10 p.m. on March 17 to 3 a.m. on March 18 in conjunction with the Bucks County DUI Enforcement Task Force.

Officers from the following departments were involved in the DUI checkpoint: Newtown Township, Newtown Borough, Bensalem, Middletown, Plumstead, Solebury, Tinicum, Warrington, Warwick and Quakertown. Pennsylvania State Police were also involved, and representatives from the Bucks County District Attorney’s office were on location.

The Southeast Pennsylvania DUI Task Forces announced last week they would be cracking down enforcement during the St. Patrick’s Day holiday week. The increased enforcement goes through March 19.

Drivers in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties can expect additional sobriety checkpoints and roving DUI patrols, PennDOT said. The Southeast Pennsylvania DUI Task Forces are comprised of 70 municipal police departments in those five counties.
