8 Council Rock North Students Named National Merit Semi-Finalists

Eight Council Rock North High School students have qualified as National Merit Semi-Finalists, the school announced Friday.

The honorees are:

• Calin F. Blauth
• Sean Condon
• Lauren D’Amelia
• Timothy W. Gehrsitz
• Mason J. Luff
• Dana R. Novikov
• Abir S. Vatsyayana
• Dorothy Zhao

“These individuals outscored 99.5 percent of those students taking the exam nationwide,” the district said in an announcement. All eight will continue in the competition to become finalists.

“Attainment of semi-finalist standing is one of the nation’s highest scholastic achievements,” the school said in its announcement.

In addition to the eight semi-finalists, 15 students from Council Rock North have been designated as Commended Students.

"In a nation that values excellence, it is important to publicly recognize the attainments of our scholastically-talented young people and to credit schools for the important part they play in their development," a Merit program spokesperson said.
