Protest March Expected To Cause Traffic Backups, Delays In Newtown

The Newtown Township Police Department is asking motorists to find alternate routes and avoid the area from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — A protest march is expected to cause delays and backups Wednesday evening, Jan. 17 between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. in Newtown Township and Newtown Borough.

Police said the march will result in short-term and sporadic road closures on the following streets:

  • Durham Road (Rt 413 to Sycamore)
  • Sycamore Street (Durham to Jefferson)
  • Jefferson Street (Sycamore to N. State)
  • State Street (Jefferson to Washington)
  • Washington Avenue (State to Sycamore)
  • Swamp Road (Sycamore to South Eagle)
  • South Eagle Road (Swamp to West)
  • West Road (S. Eagle to Durham)

The march is being organized by the Party for Socialism and Liberation - Philly, which had initially advertised the event as a rally at the Newtown Shopping Center.
