NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — Firefighters battling a roaring house fire Thursday afternoon on Tall Oaks Lane were forced to evacuate twice when conditions inside the house deteriorated.

Firefighters were called to the scene around 1:36 p.m. for a two-story single-family home with fire showing. When Newtown Fire Rescue arrived, they reported a working fire and that all the occupants were out of the house.

Under the command of Newtown Fire Rescue, firefighters from 15 companies mounted an aggressive interior attack, battling the flames with hose lines and master streams.

At two different times, firefighters working inside the building were ordered to evacuate when conditions deteriorated.

Firefighters from across the area fought the fire for about two hours before placing it under control at 3:38 p.m.

One firefighter was transported to St. Mary Medical Center for a leg injury; no other injuries were reported.

Firefighters remained on scene until 6:47 p.m., completing overhaul, hitting hot spots, and returning equipment to service. Newtown Fire Rescue firefighters remained at their stations until 10 p.m., returning all the equipment to service to prepare for the next call.

According to fire command, the location of the home presented challenges regarding access to a water supply for suppression efforts.

The fire forced the closure of a busy section of Route 532 between Stoopville Road and Linton Hill Road for several hours.

The following departments operated at the scene: Newtown Emergency Medical Services, Newtown Township Police Department, Northampton Township Fire Department, Upper Makefield Fire Company, Langhorne-Middletown Fire Company, Yardley-Makefield Fire Company, Penndel Fire Company, Middletown Fire & Emergency Services, Eagle Fire Company, Lingohocken, Lower Southampton, Fairless Hills, Feasterville, William Penn Fire Company, Southampton, and Bensalem Volunteer Fire Department.

Many additional fire departments from Bucks County relocated to backfill districts that were operating at the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by Newtown Fire Rescue and the Newtown Township Police Department.
