
As the camp season is creeping ever so close, here is another good option. Newtown Parks and Recreation hosts a few different camps that are (from what I hear from neighbors) well run, fun, and affordable. Please see below for more information.

Teen X-Treme Camp (grades 6-9)
Have fun with friends while enjoying sports, games, swimming and field trips. This teen summer camp is specifically designed for teens entering 6th through 9th grade in September. Week 1: World Cup Soccer Camp:
Campers have a blast learning foot skills, passing, shooting, defending, goalkeeping, and team concepts. We’ll play fun, age appropriate drills and games to help teach fundamentals and improve their soccer abilities throughout the week. Every day, players will participate in small sided games, culminating in a “World Cup” tournament at the end of the week. Campers will also have fun making a team tee shirt for their country!
Week 2: Ultimate Warrior Camp:
Join us at the Ultimate Warrior Camp for fitness, fun and “Survivor” type team challenges! Age-appropriate and safe activities specifically designed to challenge, inspire, and excite. Games and tasks this week include obstacle courses, relays, tug-of-war, and many other fun activities designed to teach cooperation and teamwork while also developing self-esteem.
Week 3: Sports Around the World Camp:
Campers engage in an exciting week of camp by learning about different sports that are played all over the world. Children will be exposed to the culture and history of each sport as well as play a variety of games and tournaments applicable to each sport. Sports will include Rugby, Team Handball, Cricket, Badminton, Soccer, Gaga, Netball, and Gaelic Football! Campers will also decorate their own boomerang to take home.
Week 4: All Pro Football and Cheer Camp:
Campers learn pass patterns, pass defense and other aspects of football in this fun program that emphasizes sportsmanship and teamwork. Teams play games all week and compete in a fun “Super Bowl” on the last day of camp.
“L-E-T-S GO” Cheerleading Camp Cheerleaders will learn a variety of cheers, jumps, kicks and movements. We’ll also play fun cheerleading games and Learn one or two cheer dances. Cheerleaders will decorate uniforms to wear and pom-poms to use at an exhibition on the last day of camp!
Week 5: NCAA Lacrosse Camp:
Boys and girls can learn to play one of the fastest growing sports in the United States. Lacrosse is action packed and lots of fun! The sport has elements of soccer, football, basketball and hockey. All equipment will be provided in this highly instructional program. Players will receive training on the fundamentals, including: passing and catching, fielding ground balls, cradling, spacing, positioning, and defense. Then they play fun game situational scrimmages, which helps them learn more and enjoy the fast-paced action of the game. Plastic sticks and soft balls are used. No checking, stick checking, or poking will be permitted!. At the end of the week, players will participate in a fun “NCAA Championships”.
Week 6: Olympics Sports Camp:
The Olympics are coming to Newtown! Children are grouped by age and divided into countries to learn about and compete in all types of Olympic sports! The Olympic spirit and true sportsmanship are emphasized throughout the week. Campers also learn about the culture and history of their adopted country and make a flag to carry during the "Closing Ceremonies" and "Presentation of Medals" (parents are welcome to attend).
