Application For New Pizzeria Denied By Newtown Township Supervisors

The application for a new pizzeria looking to open at the site of the former Meglio's was denied over parking and traffic concerns.

The Newtown Township Board of Supervisors on Wednesday rejected an application for a new pizza restaurant looking to open at the site of the former Meglio's in Newtown Township.

The conditional use application for Bricco Coal Fired Pizza was denied by a 4-0 vote, township manager Kurt Ferguson confirmed.

Bricco Coal Fired Pizza had submitted an application to the township for a 56-seat restaurant at 25 Swamp Road, where Meglio's was located before moving down the road to Sycamore Street.

The application, for a business described as a sit-down family pizza establishment, was denied over parking and traffic concerns, township Supervisor Jen Dix told Patch.

The restaurant was seeking to open a 2,000 square-foot location with seating numbers similar to when Meglio's was at the location.

But, Dix said, "we are not convinced there is enough parking spaces and that the spaces are the proper minimum width. With Meglio's moving out this is the time to ensure parking is sufficient."
