Armed Robbery, Suspected DUI Reported By Newtown Township Police

Police also investigated several incidents of fraud and the theft of a television.

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — The Newtown Township Police Department reported the following incidents and arrests between Sept. 8 and 13:

Friday, September 8

  • At approximately 12:30 a.m. police conducted a traffic stop on an Acura SUV operator for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of Durham Road and North Drive. Upon speaking with the driver, the officer detected the odor of alcohol. The driver was unable to perform field sobriety tests satisfactorily and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results.
  • Police were dispatched to a company in Newtown Township for the report of the theft of a television. The investigation is ongoing.
  • At approximately 1:05 p.m. a Newtown Township resident contacted police to report fraudulent charges on her credit card. The bank investigated the matter and did not hold the resident responsible for the charges.

  • At approximately 6:30 p.m. a Newtown Township resident contacted police to report an identity theft attempt. Someone attempted to create a bank account in their name but did not have all of their personal information. Police advised the resident to monitor their accounts and other personal financial information and to contact the credit bureaus.
  • Police were dispatched to Autumn Drive around 8 p.m. for a report of an armed robbery. A resident reported he was approached by two men both armed with semi-automatic handguns and forced to turn over his wristwatch. The men were described as black, medium build, approximately 5'10", wearing black clothing, gloves, and ski masks. They possibly fled in a dark-colored sedan with no license plate attached. The vehicle was last seen on the Newtown Bypass heading toward I-295. Officers from Newtown Township, Newtown Borough, Lower Makefield, Upper Makefield, and a K9 from Central Bucks Regional assisted with searching for the subjects. The resident was not injured. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Newtown Township Police Department.

Tuesday, September 12

  • A Newtown Township resident contacted police at noon to report a theft from a motor vehicle that occurred overnight. The resident reported that the vehicle had been left unlocked and some items were taken. The investigation is ongoing.

Wednesday, September 13

  • At 9:30 a.m. police were dispatched to Provident Bank for the report of fraud. The investigation is ongoing.
  • A Newtown Township resident contacted police around 10:45 a.m. to report fraudulent charges on one of her accounts. The resident was able to remedy the situation with the company and was reimbursed for her loss.
  • A Newtown Township resident contacted police around 11:30 a.m. to report fraud. He explained that he was hired by a company, mailed a check, and instructed to get several money orders once the check cleared. The check was flagged by the bank as fraudulent, and the resident did not suffer a monetary loss.
  • At approximately 4:30 p.m. a Newtown Township resident stopped at police headquarters to report fraud. The resident told police that someone tried to access his bank account but was unsuccessful because they couldn’t answer all of the security questions. The man’s personal information was compromised, but he had not suffered a monetary loss at the time of this report. Police advised the resident to monitor their accounts and other personal financial information and to contact the credit bureaus.
