Backyard Oktoberfest In Newtown Raises Funds For 'A Love For Life'
Proceeds from the German-themed fundraiser will be used to help find a cure for pancreatic cancer.

NEWTOWN BOROUGH, PA — A backyard in Newtown took on the look and feel of the old country Saturday night as about 100 neighbors and friends gathered for Oktoberfest.
As traditional oompah music filled the air, guests enjoyed Warsteiner beer while dining on a banquet of German fare including bratwurst and wieners, sauerkraut, German potato salad and spaetzle.
Proceeds from the backyard “Oktoberfest - The Best of Times, The Wurst of Times,” are benefiting Newtown-based “A Love For Life,” a nonprofit dedicated to funding pancreatic cancer research at the Abramson Cancer Center at The University of Pennsylvania and improving outcomes for those who are currently fighting the disease. Every dollar donated will help improve the odds for cancer patients.

“I am so happy. It’s the best,” said Christine Edmonds, who founded A Love for Life in memory of her husband, Kevin, who died from the disease in 2012. “It’s just so nice to come back home after summer vacation and have such an absolutely beautiful weather night with friends and family.”

The evening was expected to raise about $15,000 thanks in large part to DiBruno Brothers, which donated most of the food, including the bratwurst, the wieners, the cheese, bread and crackers.
The fundraiser was also supported by HARIBO, Newtown Hardware House, Penn Medicine, Graza Olive Oil, NORD Bread, Philly Pretzel Factory and Warsteiner Beer.
A Love For Life partnered with the National Charity League based in Doylestown to make the evening possible. The league provided the volunteers.
