Borough Looks To Acquire Court St Land, Eminent Domain Possible
The hope is that the borough can successfully negotiate with the owners before eminent domain is considered, borough officials say.

NEWTOWN, PA — Officials in Newtown Borough are looking to acquire a small piece of land on Court Street that has historic significance, and will even consider eminent domain in order to get possession if it comes to that.
The Newtown Borough Council on Tuesday approved a resolution authorizing acquisition of the property through eminent domain for historical preservation and preservation of open space.
The 0.15-acre property is located at 112 Court Street, adjacent to the Bird In Hand. Up until recently, it was listed for sale. The asking price was $425,000.

Borough officials say resorting to eminent domain will not be the first step in the process. The hope is that the borough can successfully negotiate with the owners following an appraisal to determine the land's market value, Council member Nicole Rodowicz told Patch.
