Last evening after a quick dinner at Newtown Pizza, my wife and I decided to take a walk into the boro. We both enjoy just walking around town, and after living here for six years now, we are still discovering new places.
We stopped at Starbucks for coffee and then walked back to our car that was still in the parking lot behind Newtown Pizza (food and service has been good there and this was our second time there). As we were walking down Sycamore St. we saw several geese and their young ones starting to cross the street near the Green Parrot.
We have seen this many times before at this location, and it is always good to see Mother Nature in action. The other "crossing" we see is around the Newtown Township Fire Station on Eagle Rd. At the begining of the season it is always welcome, but in a month or two people get frustrated as the geese and their young hold up traffic. Everyone is always in a hurry.

As the geese ventured across the street, traffic slowed and then stopped allowing the brood to cross. Bringing up the rear were two young ones that appeared to be much smaller than the rest of the hatchlings. If you look at the picture closely you can see that. Well everyone makes it across safely except the last two, who despite several attempts could not make it over the curb. Since the geese were out of the direct path of traffic, the cars were moving again at normal speed.
We were directly across the street, and there were three women with a stroller on the same side as the geese. We all had stopped watching events unfold. Two adult geese came back looking for the two little ones, and started to show their frustration. The two little ones still kept trying, got close a couple of times, but always landed short of the top of the curb. They even tried other parts of the curb thinking it may be lower in some areas.

A man and his son who were out for a bike ride on the same side of the street also stopped. This was going on for several minutes with no apparent solution in sight. A man pops out of no where, found a piece of cardboard, and then made a ramp for the two youngsters to walk up. All of the observers clapped and cheered as they finally made it. We have a genuine hero in Newtown that came to the rescue. Not many people saw what happened, maybe eight or so, but I am sure it made everyone feel good inside. A good way to start the weekend.
