Practice at PSSM
Performance Spine and Sports Medicine of Newtown hosts the Gwynedd Mercy College Baseball Team.
On Tuesday Jan. 24 Performance Spine and Sports Medicine of Newtown hosted the Griffins of Gwynedd Mercy College in the company’s first “Practice at PSSM”.
“Practice at PSSM” serves to provide local athletic teams (college, high school, middle school, and youth associations) the opportunity to experience a true sports medicine team. The “practice” is designed around the specific demands and needs of each athletic team. Upon arrival, the team is welcomed and players are divided into four groups for a circuit style practice.

Station #1 – Gait and Bat Swing Analysis with Optogait & Performance
In our sports performance lab, players took 3-5 swings with Performance
3D under the supervision of Zig Ziegler, Frank Colabella, and Matt Shade.
Results were compiled, and will be reviewed and emailed to the coach. We also
showcased the Optogait system.

Station #2 – Yoga and Stretching
On our exercise floor, players were taken through an appropriate,
supervised yoga program administered by Performance Spine and Sports Medicine’s
Physical Therapy Team Dr. Katie Palmer and Lisa Kozakowski
Station #3 – Chiropractic Adjustments
Dr. Kristy Root and Dr. Amber Coppola teamed up to explain the benefits
of chiropractic adjustments and provided adjustments to players and coaches who
were interested.
Station #4 – Injury Prevention
PSSM’s physician Dr. Kevin Hsu and physical therapist Dr. Jennifer Mandell partnered up to educate athletes and coaches about common baseball injuries and treatment options (including PRP injections). During the session, players were evaluated on their shoulder range of motion.
Team pictures were taken at the conclusion of the event. PSSM will now be traveling to Gwynedd Mercy College to continue providing sports medicine services and biomechanical analysis for the players throughout their upcoming season. Good Luck GMC Griffins
