NWS Gives Storm Update: 12-16 Inches Of Snow Predicted

A Winter Storm Watch is in effect in Eastern Pennsylvania starting Friday evening through Sunday morning.

The National Weather Service has announced a Winter Storm Watch will be in effect Friday evening through Sunday morning. More than a foot of snow could fall throughout Southeastern Pennsylvania during that time, the NWS predicts.

Pennsylvania residents should expect “heavy” snow that could halt travel and cause power outages, according to the NWS.

The hardest hit areas in the region will be along the I-95 corridor, where as much as 16 inches of snow could fall, the NWS said.

As much as a foot is predicted to fall in the northern Philadelphia suburbs and Central New Jersey.

The timeline of the storm shows the snow beginning Friday evening, after the commute, according to the NWS. It will continue, getting heavy at times, through Sunday morning, forecasters say.

Here are some potential impacts, according to the National Weather Service:

  • Snow may be dry and puffy at the start but will become wet and heavy. Shoveling may be problematic for those with physical ailments.
  • Snow may cling to trees and wires, causing power outages
  • Roads will become impassable due to the increasing accumulation
