Bucks County Community College Hosting Free Concert Series

The seven-concert series kicks off Wednesday, Nov. 16 and ends Dec. 18.

Bucks County Community College is holding a free concert series to showcase student talent at a series of free concerts this fall, including a performance by the big-band style Bucks Jazz Orchestra.

The series kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, with a Performance Class Recital in the Presser Music Room of the Music & Multimedia Center on the Newtown campus. This program showcases current recipients of Bucks County Community College music scholarships.

On Monday, Nov. 28, the Chamber Jazz Ensembles take the stage at 7:30 p.m. in the Presser Music Room. The ensembles, under the direction of Professors Jeff Baumeister and Dr. Michael Hoffman, consist of piano, bass guitar, acoustic guitar, drums and vocals.

That performance will be followed by the Percussion Ensemble concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, in the Presser Music Room, under the direction of faculty member Mark Pultorak.

Classical Chamber Ensembles take the stage next at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 5 in the Presser Music Room. The ensembles are under the direction of faculty members Len Pierro and Brendan Hartz.

The 50-voice Concert Choir performs at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, in the Presser Music Room. Under the direction of Professor Rochelle Reed, the mixed vocal ensemble performs a variety of music ranging from the classics to contemporary arrangements.

The Bucks Jazz Orchestra takes the stage at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, in the Kevin and Sima Zlock Performing Arts Center, located in the Gateway Center building on the Newtown campus. Under the direction of Prof. Baumeister, the group will perform music ranging from big band and swing to modern jazz. The auditorium is equipped with audio-loop technology for the hearing impaired.

Finally, the series concludes with a concert by the Bucks Madrigal Singers, under the direction of Prof. Reed, on Sunday, Dec. 18, at a special venue. The performance takes place at 4 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, located at 6587 Upper York Road, Solebury. The college’s select vocal ensemble performs advanced repertoire representing diverse historical, cultural, and stylistic background and genres.

All concerts are free and open to the public. Bucks County Community College is located at 275 Swamp Road, Newtown.
