Bucks County Community College Taking Applications For Free Industrial Maintenance Program

Skilled workers are needed and BCCC is offering you the chance to learn a trade.

Bucks County Community College is offering a program that trains people in industrial maintenance to meet employer demands for skilled workers.

The free 12-week Industrial Maintenance Training program begins Feb. 13 at the Bucks County Public Safety Training Center, 1760 S. Easton Road, Doylestown.

The college is holding information sessions for the program on Jan. 5 and Jan. 12 at the Lower Bucks, 1304 Veterans Highway, Bristol, and Upper Bucks, 1 Hillendale Road, Perkasie, campuses. The sessions are scheduled for 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

The training will focus on electro-mechanical fundamentals and is geared toward unemployed or underemployed individuals. Training is free but students must meet certain criteria to qualify for the program, the college said.

Interested students must attend an information session to apply to the program, which is funded by a grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration, the college said.

Representatives of companies looking to hire skilled workers will be on hand to answer questions and will help select candidates for the program.

Ideal candidates are mechanically inclined, like to problem-solving, and are looking to start a new career.

Efforts will be made to connect those who successfully complete the program with local employers, the college said.

The Industrial Maintenance Training program will introduce participants to the fundamental concepts and hands-on skills required by electro-mechanical technicians in manufacturing and a variety of industries, according to the college.

Students will receive a certificate of completion, plus OSHA10 and Forklift Safety Training certification, the college said.

Requirements for the program include:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or possess a Green Card
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED
  • Must pass an electro-mechanical aptitude test, drug screening, background check, and a physical test
  • Must have reliable transportation to commute to training and to a variety of industry field trips

The program begins Feb. 13 and consists of four days a week in class, and one day a week off-site for company tours, the college said.
