Bucks County Gets $1.7 Million Grant For Workforce Development

The money will help train workers who have been dislocated or who have lost their jobs through no fault of their own.

Bucks County has received a $1.7 million award to help unemployed individuals find and prepare for new opportunities, officials announced this week.

U.S. Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick announced the grant, which empowers the Bucks County Workforce Development Board to improve education and work-based learning for workers around the region.

The money will specifically help workers who have been dislocated or who have lost their jobs through no fault of their own, including those who have been laid off or individuals who work in declining sectors.

“Here in Bucks and Montgomery County, as is the case around the nation, substantive training and apprenticeship programs are integral to good paying jobs," Fitzpatrick said in a statement. "This is especially important as we witness many traditionally retail job opportunities disappear. This grant will lead to positive, transformative changes in the lives of countless residents. We must ensure that our workforce has the necessary skills to compete in 21st century economy."

The Development Board will now offer additional customized training programs, on-the-job training, industry certifications, and more, Fitzpatrick said.
