Bucks Foundation Steps To The Plate To Help Strike Out Hunger

Epsteins pledge $2,500 to Philabundance for each home run hit by the Phillies from Wednesday night to the end of the series.

BUCKS COUNTY, PA — The Gene and Marlene Epstein Foundation in Bucks County is stepping to the plate to help Strike Out Hunger as part of a baseball-inspired fundraising challenge between Philabundance and the Houston, Texas Food Bank.

The foundation will be donating $2,500 to Philabundance's campaign for every home run the Phillies hit from tonight until the last game of the World Series.

"We truly appreciate their commitment to helping us relieve hunger today and end hunger for good," said Kate Scully, the Chief External Affairs Officer for Philabundance, of the donation.

As the Phillies face off against the Astros, Philabundance has challenged the Houston Food Bank - the largest food bank in the nation - to a friendly fundraising competition to see which city steps up to Strike Out Hunger.

“In Philadelphia, we know what it is like to be an underdog,” said Loree D. Jones Brown, Philabundance CEO. “When it’s not expected for us to win, our teams do. Since the Houston
Food Bank is double our size, you may think we’re also an underdog in this challenge, but I am
sure Phillies’ fans will show them just how strong we are!”

Here’s the challenge: Which food bank – Philabundance or the Houston Food Bank – can raise
more funding for their critical work between now and midnight of the day of the last game when a champion is announced? To show your support by making a donation to the home team - Philabundance - click here.

The food bank that raises the most money to support their area residents living with food
insecurity wins the challenge and will send some of their branded gear to the losing food bank –
hats, t-shirts – that their CEO will have to wear.

“While this competition may be fun, we are so grateful for any and all support of a serious
issue: hunger in our communities,” said Jones Brown. “Every donation helps Philabundance
meet the growing need for food and nutrition. The real winner here will be the communities we
serve.”

Philabundance issued a similar challenge during the National League playoffs.

While the Philadelphia Phillies and San Diego Padres faced off for the National League title, the
two organizations went head-to-head to see who could raise more funds to address hunger.

Philabundance raised $16,944 and Feeding San Diego raised $7,707.
