NEWTOWN BOROUGH, PA — Businessman, longtime Newtown Borough community volunteer and lifelong Bucks County resident Bernie Sauer has announced his candidacy for Newtown Borough Council in the 2nd Ward.

“I have spent more than a decade working to make our community a better place for everyone as a volunteer with local community groups as well as borough government.” said Sauer. “My commitment to preserving and improving Newtown Borough has always been clear and strong. Running for Borough Council is the next step in doing more for my neighbors.”

Sauer said he will bring to Borough Council a unique mixture of real-world business experience and understanding of community amassed as a community volunteer. A successful local small business owner, Sauer has interacted with countless residents and local governments throughout the region and has strong experience in management, project oversight and finance.

Sauer said that his platform will focus on a few key areas: ensuring fiscal responsibility that plans for the future and respects the taxpayer; protecting the special and welcoming character of Newtown Borough that makes it one of America's best small towns; and ensuring the continued safety of residents and visitors.

“Newtown is a special place and keeping that way for the future – for my kids and grandkids and yours – is my most important goal,” said Sauer. “Political games and partisanship won’t do that; hard work and focusing on what’s right will. That is what I will do as a member of Council.”

Sauer, 51, is a graduate of Bishop Egan High School and studied at Bucks County Community College and Temple University. He and his wife, Traci, make their home in Newtown where he has lived for more than 35 years. Sauer is the proud stepfather of Donovan, a graduate of Pennsbury High School now attending West Chester University, and Nicholas, who attends Council Rock High School. An avid sportsman, Sauer is an active baseball and softball player and golfer.
