Catalytic Converter Thefts, Stolen Vehicle Reported In Newtown

Police also investigated several fraud complaints and took four juveniles into custody for riding in a stolen vehicle.

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — Police in Newtown Township reported the following incidents and arrests between Jan. 13 and Jan. 19:

January 13

  • A Newtown Township resident responded to headquarters at 3:45 p.m. to report fraud. The resident explained that someone fraudulently used her airline account air miles. The airline reimbursed the miles after the police report was filed.

  • At approximately 3:15 a.m. police conducted a traffic stop on a Subaru sedan operator for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of North Sycamore and Jefferson streets. Upon contact with the operator, the officer detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. The operator was unable to perform field sobriety tests satisfactorily and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results.
  • Shortly after 8 a.m., police were dispatched to a Newtown Township residence for the report of a stolen vehicle. The investigation is ongoing at this time.

January 15

  • At approximately 11:30 a.m. a Newtown Township resident contacted police to report a fraudulent charge on their bank account. They deactivated their card and reported the charge, and the bank will be investigating the matter.

January 16

  • Police were dispatched to a Newtown Township business around 7:45 a.m. for the report of catalytic converter thefts that occurred over the weekend. Four catalytic converters were taken, and the investigation is ongoing at this time.
  • At approximately 11:50 a.m. police conducted a traffic stop on a Ford Explorer operator for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of the Newtown Bypass and Buck Road. As a result of the investigation, suspected marijuana was discovered and seized as evidence, and charges are pending.
  • Police were dispatched to a Newtown Township business around 3:15 p.m. for the report of catalytic converter thefts that occurred over the weekend. Three catalytic converters were taken, and the investigation is ongoing at this time.

January 17

  • Shortly after 2:15 am, police pursued a vehicle in the area of Churchill Lane. The vehicle was reported as stolen out of Horsham Township. As a result of the investigation, four juvenile males were taken into custody and will be charged in connection.

January 19

  • At approximately 6:30 pm police were dispatched to the area of Pheasant Run for the report of a theft from a vehicle. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
