Celebrate 300 Years of History with Wrightstown Quaker Meeting May 4

Celebrate 300 Years of History with Wrightstown Friends (Quaker) Meeting on May 4, 2024

Wrightstown Friends Meeting invites the entire community to its 300th anniversary celebration, set to take place on May 4, 2024, from 11 AM to 4 PM, rain or shine, at 535 Durham Rd, Newtown, PA 18940. The property has been in continuous use by Wrightstown Friends Meeting since 1721. The current Meetinghouse dates to 1787 and has been on the Register of Historic Places since 1975.

The day will be filled with engaging activities suitable for all ages, including performances by the Bucks County Folksong Society, the enchanting Give and Take Jugglers, and the band Fools and Prophets. Attendees will have the opportunity to delve into the Meeting's rich history through a display of historic photographs and explore the Meetinghouse and graveyard. Meeting members will offer tours of the buildings and the burial grounds. A guest arborist will lead a tour of the property's trees, including the venerable William Penn Oak, which is at least 250 and perhaps as many as 500 years old.

A highlight of the celebration will be the chance to meet "Edward Hicks," the renowned painter famous for "The Peaceable Kingdom," who was a member of the Wrightstown Quaker community from 1814-1820. Hicks will connect attendees with the vibrant past of Wrightstown Friends Meeting.

Local elected officials will join in the festivities and offer congratulatory remarks.

Families with young children can enjoy our wonderful Wrightstown Nursery School playground.

The event is free and open to the public. Guests are encouraged to wear walking shoes and bring lawn chairs to enjoy the day's festivities in comfort.
