Charges Filed In Swamp Road Accident That Seriously Injured Child

Breaking: A man has been charged in connection with an accident that seriously injured a woman and a child on Swamp Road last February.

NEWTOWN, PA — A man has been charged in connection with an accident that seriously injured a woman and a child on Swamp Road last February, Newtown Township Police announced Friday.

Barry Hillborn Jr, 50, of Perkasie, has been charged with aggravated assault by motor vehicle and related charges in connection with the Feb. 11 accident, which required the two victims to be extricated. The child was airlifted to CHOP.

The accident happened during the evening hours on Swamp Road in the area of Twining Bridge Road.

When police arrived, a 43-year-old woman and an 11-year-old girl were located at the scene still entrapped in their vehicle, with extensive injuries. The Newtown Fire Association was able to extricate both victims from their vehicle. The woman was transported to St. Mary Medical Center by ambulance and the child went via Medevac to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Both had serious bodily injuries, police said.

Investigators determined that Hillborn had operated his vehicle in a reckless manner, resulting in the accident.

Hillborn surrendered himself to the Newtown Township Police Department Thursday, Oct .26. He was processed and arraigned by MDJ Michael Petrucci and was released on $50,000 unsecured bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 13, court records show.
