Children's Illustrator Visits Newtown Elementary School

Children's book illustrator Shane Evans visited Newtown Elementary School last week and teacher Mindy Popescu shared some photos with Newtown Patch.

Popescu said she and her colleague Liz Dobuski have been waiting for more than a year to bring Evans to Newtown Elementary School. Evans is the illustrator of many children's books and travels the world to share his gifts with all ages, cultures, ethnic groups and backgrounds, Popescu explained. During the Thursday event at Newtown Elementary School, he shared his latest books, "Chocolate Me" and "Mixed Me."

He ended his presentation singing and playing the guitar to a song from one of his books that he wrote and illustrated titled, "Olu's Dream."

"The children sang along, 'Be all that you can be and when the sun does rise, bring these dreams to life'," Popescu recalled.
