Construction at Old Acme Site to Begin Thursday

A groundbreaking ceremony will be held at 1 p.m.

Construction at The Promenade, a mixed-use development planned for the old Acme site on Sycamore Street, will begin Thursday, project partners have announced.

A groundbreaking ceremony will be held at 1 p.m.

When complete, The Promenade will have 26 luxury apartments and four to six high-end retailers. Anthropologie, a clothing and home accessories chain, is the anchor retailer in the project.

The community has been awaiting development of the site for years.

Plans for The Promenade were approved in 2012 and the decaying building was torn down months later but construction stalled due to a sewer moratorium impacting Bucks County. But even once the sewer issue was resolved, an easement was required for the project to move forward.

Property owner Jim Worthington said he estimated construction would take between eight to 10 months, the Bucks County Courier Times reported.
