Council Rock Choirs to Perform World Premiere of Local Composer's Work

Council Rock choirs join together to perform the World Premiere of "Two Cardinals" by local composer Dr. Jay Kawarsky.

On Friday, May 22, the Council Rock North Choirs will join together with the Newtown Middle School Choirs to perform a special combined concert celebrating music from around the world.

The concert begins at 7:30 PM at Council Rock North and features the World Premiere of Two Cardinals, a new piece written by local composer Dr. Jay Kawarsky. Dr. Kawarsky is a Professor of Music Theory and Composition at Rider University and recently received his sixth Composer Award from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP).

“The Middle School students are excited to be performing with the high school singers, especially those with older siblings!” says Mark Dolan, Choral Director at Newtown Middle School. “We hope this experience will strengthen the link between the two programs.”

“The best way to experience music is to be exposed to all types of music. This concert celebrates traditions from around the world, as well as right here at home,” says Director Jared Williams. ‘We are preparing for our International Concert Tour next year and this was a great opportunity to explore the music of other countries.”

This Friday night’s concert at Council Rock North (62 Swamp Road in Newtown) is free and open to the public. The Council Rock North Voice choir will also be performing on Memorial Day at the conclusion of the Newtown Memorial Day parade at Boro Hall in Newtown.
