The Council Rock Coalition for Healthy Youth Delivers an Informational Program for Boy Scouts and Their Parents
Scouts from Newtown's Troop 99 learned about the dangers of substance abuse from Council Rock Coalition for Healthy Youth

The Council Rock Coalition for Healthy Youth presented an educational program to the boy scouts of Troop 99 and their parents at their meeting in Newtown on January 9th. Seventeen scouts participated in an interactive discussion about drug and alcohol use and abuse. Their parents attended a separate meeting facilitated by local psychologist Dr. Debbie Van Aken. Parents were given guidance, information and resources so they could continue the discussion at home in the future.
The program for the scouts fulfilled a requirement for advancement to Second Class Scout in which the boys learn about the dangers of substance addictions and discuss them with their parents.
The mission of the Council Rock Coalition for Healthy Youth is to prevent and reduce substance use amongst youth in the Council Rock community. The organization has been working in the field of prevention since 1997. Partners who participate in the Coalition include individuals from the school district, parents, youth, faith-based organizations, healthcare, media, and other sectors of the local community.
