The district is the only district in Pennsylvania to achieve the designation and one of only six districts nationwide.

NEWTOWN, PA — The Council Rock School District has earned the designation of “Steinway Select District" with the addition of two new Steinway pianos to its music program.

The district recently collaborated with the Council Rock Education Foundation (CREF) to purchase the instruments for its music programs at Council Rock High School North and Council Rock High School South.

The addition of the two pianos means students in Council Rock’s music program now have the opportunity to learn on pianos considered the finest for their exceptional quality and preferred by premiere musicians worldwide.

It also brings with it a special distinction from the Steinway and Sons Company.

At the April 19 school board meeting Council Rock was officially designated a “Steinway Select District.” The designation makes Council Rock one of only six “Steinway Select” school districts nationwide and the only “Steinway Select District” in Pennsylvania.

Robert Rinaldi, the executive vice president of Jacobs Music Company, was present at the meeting to present two plaques to the school district, one for each high school, proclaiming the “Steinway Select District” designation.

CREF has pledged to share the cost of the pianos, described by CREF Executive Director Beth Anne Dobosh as a “historic investment in the arts.

"It is because of the steadfast commitment and generosity of our donors - past, present, and future - that we can confidently make this pledge," she said.

Also celebrating the recognition were several students and teachers from Council Rock’s music program.
