Council Rock Newtown 12s Win State Tournament Opener

Only the best of what little league has to offer remains. 

In the first round of play of the Pennsylvania State Championship Sunday in State College, Council Rock Newtown battled it out in what seemed to be a pitchers' duel with Abington National.  Jared Schram was solid on the mound again, only giving up three runs to a powerful Abington National lineup. 

Although Newtown displayed solid fielding and rode Schram's strong arm, they still trailed Abington National going into the bottom of the fourth inning. 

That all changed in a hurry. 

At bat in the fourth inning, Schram helped his own cause with a base hit.  Matt Rowen and Steve Buten both drew walks to load the bases  Speedy Seumus Crossett tied the game with an infield hit. 

That was the jumpstart Newtown needed.  Trevor Tucillo hit a three-run homerun that put Newtown ahead 8-3.  Newtown ended the game with a RBI base hit by Cavan Tully to force a mercy rule win of 13-3.

Newtown faces Devon Strafford in the second round of play tonight at 8 p.m.
