NEWTOWN, PA —The Council Rock Boys Lacrosse Team will be fighting two battles Thursday night at Walt Snyder Stadium - one on the field against Souderton and one off the field against a fiercer opponent, pancreatic cancer.

In addition to going for his 100th goal on the field, lacrosse player and Council Rock North senior Sam Lewis is organizing a spirit night at the game for "A Love For Life," a Newtown-based nonprofit founded to fund pancreatic research at the Abramson Cancer Center at The University of Pennsylvania.

Lewis has been a dedicated "A Love for Life" volunteer since his Goodnoe Elementary school days. The non-profit was founded in honor of Newtown resident Kevin Edmonds, a close friend of Sam’s parents, Greg and Heather Lewis.

“Sam has always been the brightest face at any of our events,” said A Love for Life President Christine Edmonds. “He’s grown from an eight year old helping at lemonade and popcorn stands and cheering at races to showing up with his high school friends to set everything up at our
benefits, and now he’s come up with a fundraising idea of his own as he finishes up his last year at
Council Rock."

During Thursday's game, which begins at 7 p.m. at March 30, the community is invited to cheer on the Boys Lacrosse team while raising awareness and funds for A Love For Life.

The team will be wrapping its sticks in purple tape and wearing awareness wrist bands. In addition, Spirit Night custom-designed white cotton T-shirts will be given out free of charge to the first 250 Council Rock students. All are welcome.

Spirit Night is sponsored by three generous local businesses - The First National Bank of Newtown, Newtown Hardware House and the ProShop Newtown.

Volunteers with A Life For Life will be at the event selling pretzels, water bottles, A Love for Life pint glasses, Gummy Bears and other merchandise. They will also be on hand to answer questions and share their mission to raise funds and awareness for the devastating disease.

One hundred percent of the funds raised on Thursday night will go to the Abramson Cancer Center at the University of Pennsylvania for pancreatic cancer research.

"Spirit Night will hopefully also include a 100th goal for Sam, as well as for his teammate Andrew Zazoff, a Council Rock junior," said Edmonds. "We're hoping to have our Council Rock community under the lights on Thursday night united in the fight against pancreatic cancer."
