Council Rock North Student Selected for National Jazz Ensemble

Matthew Desiderio is preparing for a performance at the Grand Old Opry House on Oct. 29.

Council Rock High School North student Matthew Desiderio has been named to the 2014 All-National Jazz Honor Ensemble sponsored by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME).

As one of only 20 musicians selected for the elite Jazz Ensemble, Matthew will join 670 of the most musically talented and skilled high school students in the United States for a performance at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville on October 29.

“Matthew is an outstanding musician who is full of passion and drive. Council Rock North is pleased to have him representing the music department,” said Jared Williams, Department Coordinator of Council Rock North Music.

The students picked for the ensembles are the “best of the best” and were selected out of approximately 2.5 million students nationwide from local, district and state music festivals, according to the National Association for Music Education.

They will perform under the baton of four of the most prominent conductors in the United States. The conductor of the Jazz Ensemble is Robert Baca, Professor of Music, Director of Jazz Studies, University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire.
