Council Rock South music teacher Chris Simon first escorted students to the White House in 2011. He and his orchestra have performed at the White House every year since, including twice in 2016 and 2017, the district said.

In addition to performing, orchestra members went ice skating, saw the National Christmas Tree, toured the White House, and dined at the Hard Rock Cafe, according to information from the district.

"Although there are other high school groups that perform at the White House, it is very competitive and difficult to get accepted. An estimated 60 groups from all over the country get invitations, but it is estimated that hundreds apply," according to an announcement from the district.

The Council Rock South Orchestra is the largest group to perform each year and the only full orchestra, the district said.
