Council Rock Receives $4M in Grants for 'Green' Schools
The district received two, $2 million Commonwealth Financing Authority grants to construct a new middle school and renovate another.

Council Rock School District has received two, $2 million state grants to construct and renovate schools with environmentally-friendly features.
The district received a $2 million Commonwealth Financing Authority grant to construct a new 176,000-square-foot, energy-efficient middle school in Newtown, State Rep. Steve Santarsiero, D-Bucks, announced Tuesday.
The Commonwealth Financing Authority also awarded the district a $2 million grant for renovations to Holland Middle School in Northampton Township, Santarsiero announced.

“I am proud to once again see Council Rock School District as a leader in efforts to preserve our environment, while also improving the learning environment for students and teachers,” Santarsiero said.
The new building will be constructed on the same campus as the current Middle School on Richboro Road near the Newtown Bypass.

“It will include geothermal heating and cooling, energy-efficient lighting, automated energy-control systems, low-flow water fixtures and solar panels, among other Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) Gold-certified upgrades,” Santarsiero noted.
The total project cost is $55.82 million.
