COUNCIL ROCK'S JULIA FISCHER NAMED AS GNEC STUDENT OF THE MONTH

Council Rock senior Julia Fischer received the Greater Newtown Exchange Club's Student Of the Month Award at the Club's May 5 meeting

The Greater Newtown Exchange Club (GNEC) honored Council Rock North High School senior Julia Fischer with GNEC’s coveted Student of the Month (SOM) Award at the Club’s May 5 meeting. The accompanying photo shows Fischer being presented the award by GNEC's Elizabeth Soucar.

Fischer is president of Model United Nations (MUN) and meets regularly with student delegates to prepare for the organization’s annual conference. She has attended numerous MUN conferences to discuss international issues and work on transnational and global problems.

Fischer is also president of the Spanish Club and holds monthly meetings with members to promote the Spanish language and culture and raise funds for the Club. In addition, she is president of the Science Club where she helps promote science fair projects and science related events. Fischer also serves as public relations officer of the Science National Honor Society and assists with communications within the student body and the community at large.

Journalism is also on Fischer’s resume as she serves as a reporter for the Indianite school newspaper. Two of her articles were selected for publication in the Newtown Gazette. Fischer’s community activities include serving as a research assistant for the USDA at their Wyndmoor Dairy and Functional Fields Center, promoting science to 4th and 5th grade students and raising money for the awareness and treatment of the disease leukododystrophy.

Fischer’s academic achievements include induction into multiple honor societies in US and International organizations as well as being honored on the Council Rock honor roll and being named Council Rock student of the month. Her achievements in the field of scientific research include examining the use of nuclear magnetic resonance to investigate nutrient differences in agricultural products and determining the effect of chemical leavening agents on non-chemically based leavened products.

Fischer’s aspirations on graduating include majoring in science at a major university. She also notes that at this stage, the most important thing to her is family.
