Council Rock's 'Raising Great Kids' Series Kicks Off Thursday

Dr. Ken Ginsburg of CHOP will discuss preparing children for life and helping them cope with stress during the series opener.

Council Rock will again host the “Raising Great Kids” speaker series featuring experts offering insight and advice on various parenting issues.

The “Raising Great Kids” Series kicks off this Thursday at 7 p.m. at Council Rock South with Dr. Ken Ginsburg leading a discussion about preparing children for life and helping them deal with stress.

Presented by the Council Rock Coalition for Healthy Youth (CRCHY) and the Council Rock Education Foundation, this year’s series is made possible through a partnership with The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

A pediatrician specializing in Adolescent Medicine at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Dr. Ginsburg is also a professor of pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He has appeared on CNN, NPR and The Today Show to provide practical approaches that parents can use to build resilience in children.

Dr. Ginsburg’s two best-selling books, “Building Resilience in Children and Teens: Giving Kids Roots and Wings,” and “Letting Go with Love and Confidence: Raising Responsible, Resilient, Self-Sufficient Teens, will be available for purchase at Thursday’s event.

“I am very pleased to see these outstanding groups working together to bring these opportunities to the parents of our community,” said Council Rock Superintendent Mark Klein.

The series will continue in January with a presentation on social media, substance abuse and positive parenting.

  • Smartphones to Social Media: Teaching teens to use technology safely. January 27, 2015 – Newtown Middle School
  • Unguarded – A Conversation with Chris Herren: Making better choices and preventing substance abuse. February 2015 TBD
  • Community Conversations, Wednesday March 25, 2015. This program will discuss a variety of issues including communication do’s and don’ts, optimizing teen sleep and dealing with stressed out students.
  • Positive Parenting – Encouraging smart choices. April TBD 2015
