Newtown Democrats Sweep Election For Council, Supervisors
Tuesday was a good night for Democrats in Newtown. They won all 3 seats on Borough Council, 3 for township supervisor and 1 for school board

Tuesday was a good night for Democrats in Newtown.
Democrats won all three seats for Newtown Borough Council, as well as all three seats on the Newtown Township Board of Supervisors, and a hotly-contest seat for Council Rock School Board.
The unofficial results, reported shortly before midnight by the County, indicate Nicole Rodowicz and Marvin Cohen were chosen for council in Newtown Borough's first ward. Republican Paul Salvatore was on the ballot but came up short.

In the borough's first ward, Rodowicz got the most votes out of the three candidates. Two seats were available. According to the unofficial results reported by the county, Rodowicz received 356 votes; Cohen received 280 votes and Salvatore got 228 votes.
A razor thin race shaped up in the second ward, with the unofficial results showing Democrat Julia W. Woldorf beating Christopher Gusty by just two votes. Woldorf received 227 votes to Gusty's 225.

In nearby Newtown Township, votes for three Board of Supervisors seats, which were still being counted well after midnight, show Democrats Phil Calabro and Linda Bobrin winning six-year terms.
The pair comfortably beat Republicans Laure Gensbauer and Jerry Festa.
Calabro received 2,719 votes and Bobrin received 2,523 votes to Gensbauer's 2,137 and Festa's 1,937,
For the two-year Newtown Township Supervisor seat, Democrat John Mack had nearly 56 percent of the vote. Mack received 2,721 votes over incumbent Republican Gerry Couch.
Couch, who was appointed in 2016 to fill the seat vacated by Michael Gallagher, received 2,145 votes.
In a hotly-contest race for Council Rock School Board, Mariann McKee, a Democrat and former Goodnoe Elementary School teacher, prevailed over Republican incumbent Kathleen Mulholland.
One race in which Democrats were not able to prevail was in the contest for Newtown Borough mayor, where Republican incumbent Charles F. Swartz III held on over challenger Mike Sellers, a Democrat.
Tax collector Tammy L. Sutton, a Republican incumbent, cruised to victory over Alisa Monteiro. However, Republican Alexandra Gallagher was defeated by Democrat Dennis Fisher for auditor.
The results still need to be certified before they become official.
