Driver Arrested For Suspected DUI, Packages Stolen In Newtown Township

Police also conducted a truck enforcement detail with three vehicles taken out of service.

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — The Newtown Township Police Department reported the following incidents and arrests between May 12 and May 18:

May 12

  • At approximately 5 p.m. a Newtown Township resident contacted police to report a fraud. The resident explained that she was shopping online when she came across a site that looked like Amazon. She called the listed phone number to place an order and was asked to provide an excessive amount of personal information. She realized it was a scam after the fact and notified the banks to close her accounts. Fortunately, she did not suffer a monetary loss. Police advise residents to be aware of such scams and to use caution when providing personal information to unknown parties.

  • At approximately 5:30 p.m. police conducted a traffic stop on a Ford Escape operator for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of Durham and Old Durham roads. Upon speaking with the operator, the officer detected the odor of marijuana. The operator was unable to perform field sobriety tests satisfactorily and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. As a result of the investigation, suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia were discovered and seized as evidence. Charges are pending blood evidence results.
  • Police were dispatched to a Newtown Township residence around 1 p.m. for the report of a disturbance. As a result of the investigation, a woman was taken into custody on an outstanding arrest warrant without incident.

May 16

  • Police were dispatched to a Wrightstown Township home at approximately 9 a.m. for the report of a disturbance. As a result of the investigation, a man was arrested and charged with simple assault.
  • At approximately 2:45 p.m. police were dispatched to a Newtown Township home for the report of packages stolen from the front porch. The total value of loss was approximately $200. The investigation is ongoing.

  • The Newtown-Makefield Truck Enforcement Unit conducted a commercial vehicle safety detail in the area of Durham Road and Fox Hill Drive in Wrightstown. The unit is made up of officers from Newtown Township, Newtown and Upper Makefield. During the detail, five trucks were stopped and inspected and four citations were issued for violations that were found. Three trucks were placed out of service and towed.

May 18

  • A Newtown Township business contacted police around 2:30 p.m. to report a fraud involving altered checks. The investigation is ongoing.
