Drivers Arrested On Drug Possession, DUI Charges In Newtown Township

Police make arrests following traffic stops in Newtown Township; announce plans for "Car, Cops & Coffee" event.

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — Two drivers are facing charges, one for suspicion of DUI and one for possession of suspected narcotics, following traffic stops in the township.

March 23

  • At approximately 10:51 p.m. police conducted a traffic stop on a Ford truck driver for committing a vehicle code violation at the Newtown Bypass and Lower Silver Lake Road. Upon speaking with the driver, the officer detected the odor of alcohol. The driver was unable to perform field sobriety tests satisfactorily and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results.

  • At approximately 2:43 a.m. police stopped a Ford van driver for committing a vehicle code violation at Buck Road and Mill Pond Road. As a result of the investigation, suspected narcotics were discovered and seized as evidence. The driver was arrested.

  • The police department has announced plans for its bi-annual "Cars, Cops and Coffee" event on Saturday, May 4 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Veterans Park. Classic car owners are invited to bring their classic cars, collectible cars, exotic cars or just their favorite weekend cruiser and have a cup of coffee with members of the police department and fellow car enthusiasts. All makes and models are welcome. The event takes place rain or shine.
