DUI Arrests, Theft Of Mail Reported By Newtown Township Police

The Newtown Township Police Department responded to the following calls between Oct. 8 and Oct. 12:

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — The Newtown Township Police Department responded to the following calls between Oct. 8 and Oct. 12:

October 8

  • At approximately 12:05 a.m. police conducted a traffic stop on a Hyundai Tucson operator for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of the Newtown Bypass and Buck Road. Upon speaking with the operator, the officer detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. The operator was unable to perform field sobriety tests satisfactorily and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results.
  • At approximately 2:30 a.m. police conducted a traffic stop on a Honda Accord operator for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of the Newtown Bypass and Campus Drive. Upon speaking with the operator, the officer detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. The operator was unable to perform field sobriety tests satisfactorily and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results.
  • At approximately 4 a.m. police conducted a traffic stop on a Nissan Maxima operator for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of the Newtown Bypass and Woodbourne Road. As a result of the investigation, suspected narcotics and drug paraphernalia were discovered on the passenger and seized as evidence. Charges for the passenger are pending evidence results.
  • At approximately 3:45 p.m. police were dispatched to McCaffrey’s Market for the report of a retail theft. The total value of loss was approximately $140. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
  • At approximately 9 p.m. police responded to the intersection of Wrights Road and Eagle Road for a single-vehicle traffic accident, involving property damage at Saint Andrew's Elementary School. As a result of the investigation, the operator is suspected of driving under the influence, and charges are pending at this time.
  • At approximately 11 p.m. police responded to the United States Post Office at 20 Terry Drive for the report of a suspicious occurrence. A witness reported two males in the parking lot, fishing mail from the outside mail collection boxes. Police were able to locate a suspect vehicle, which fled the scene. The investigation is ongoing. Any residents using these mail collection boxes on or around Oct. 8 are encouraged to monitor their banking statements for any fraudulent activity as criminals have been known to forge personal or business checks that they are able to obtain from these collection boxes. Any suspicious or fraudulent activity should be reported to the police or to the United States Postal Inspection Service.

  • At approximately 7:30 p.m. police conducted a traffic stop on a Ford Explorer operator for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of the Newtown Bypass and South Sycamore Street. Upon speaking with the operator, the officer detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. The operator was unable to perform field sobriety tests satisfactorily and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results.

  • At approximately 3 p.m. a Newtown Township resident responded to headquarters to report a check fraud. The investigation is ongoing at this time.

  • At approximately 4:30 p.m. a Newtown Township resident contacted police to report an attempted theft of services. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
