Emily Lukens and Dolores Poacelli Exhibit Double Take at George School

Emily Lukens and Dolores Poacelli will exhibit Double Take at George School. A gallery talk and reception will be held Nov. 5 at 3:00 p.m.

Emily Lukens and Dolores Poacelli will exhibit Double Take in the Class of 1956 Gallery in Mollie Dodd Anderson Library at George School from Monday, November 2, through Thursday, December 17, 2015. A gallery talk and reception will be held on Thursday, November 5, 2015 at 3:00 p.m.

The collection of paintings represents recent work from both artists.

“My work is about texture,” said Emily. “I use resources from nature to create rubbings on thin papers. I use these images to collage and paint mixed media works that represent close-up and far away views of the earth.”

Her paintings combine oil paint, acrylic, graphite, and sand and she typically produces four to five images related to one subject.

“When hung together, the assemblages reinforce a common theme referencing my printmaking background,” shared Emily. “In my work, time is an element, and I am interested in reconfiguring the ancient, bringing it into a contemporary context.”

Just as Emily explores the relationships of time, Dolores explores relationships between color, shape, texture, and space.

“No matter what the medium or material, I am always aware of the all-important proportion,” said Dolores. “The placement and relationship of one shape to another shape, one color to another color and the relationship of the parts to the whole . . . and of course the relationship of the piece to the viewer.”

Dolores uses collage as a metaphor for our fragmented lifestyles. The titles of her pieces connect “the viewer to an otherwise ambiguous abstract work.”

“My work is informed by the energies of lifeforms as I continue to attempt to find an essence in the expression of the relationship to the world we live in,” said Dolores.

The gallery is open Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. For more information, contact Amedeo Salamoni at 215.579.6695.
