Evan Kownurko of Troop 99 in Newtown Earns the Highest Rank in Scouting
Eagle Scout Evan Kownurko recently completed a project at Thompson Memorial Presbyterian Church in New Hope
Evan Charles Kownurko of Newtown’s Troop 99 recently earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Thompson Memorial Presbyterian Church was the beneficiary of the Washington Crossing resident’s Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project.
Evan led a group of volunteers in the restoration of the maintenance garage located at the church’s graveyard. He chose the project as a way to give back to his church family and because his own late father is buried there. Prior to the project, the garage was in a state of disrepair and was covered in moss. He and his team cleaned up the grounds around the garage, replaced rotted wood with cinder blocks to match the rest of the exterior. Once that was completed, the building was painted and a new mechanical garage door was installed. The end result is both more appealing aesthetically and functionally.
Highlights of his trail to Eagle include camping at Ockanickon Scout Reservation with his dad and friends, a camping trip to Washington, D.C. and serving as Senior Patrol Leader when Troop 99 won the saber at the West Point Scoutmasters Council Invitational Camporee earlier this year.
The son of Karen Kownurko and the late Kirk Kownurko, Evan is a rising senior at Council Rock High School North. He is a member of the Varsity Lacrosse Team and Ski Club, Tri-M Music Honor Society, Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society, and French Honor Society. He is Drum Major of the marching band and a member of the jazz band. He is a Staff Sergeant in Civil Air Patrol and working towards his private pilot’s license. Evan hopes for a congressional nomination to one of the service academies and plans for a career in aviation.
