False Alarm in ATM Tampering Incident: Police

May 23

At approximately 1:15 a.m., an officer was patrolling on South Sycamore Street when he observed a vehicle being driven onto Centre Avenue with no headlights on. The officer stopped the motorist and the driver was identified as 43-year-old Aaron Tuckman of Notch Road in Hawley, Pa. After a brief investigation the officer formed the opinion that Tuckman had operated his vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Tuckman was taken into custody and was transported to Saint Mary Medical Center, where blood was drawn to be submitted to the Bucks County Crime Lab. Tuckman was transported to the 7-11 Store in Newtown at his request and released, charges of DUI are pending the results of the lab work.

May 25

Shortly after 3 p.m., police received a report that two men were tampering with an ATM at a bank on South Eagle Road. The responding officers didn’t locate their vehicle, but the caller had provided a description of the car the men were driving along with a registration number. The vehicle information was radioed to surrounding police departments and officers from Lower Makefield Police located and stopped the vehicle. Newtown Township officers responded to the traffic stop and made contact with the two men in the car. The occupants provided identification and a work order for the ATM in question. No further police action was required.
