False Report Of Active Shooter Sent To BCCC Community

NEWTOWN, PA — The Bucks County Community College community recieved an alert of an active shooter Tuesday afternoon, but officials said that alert was sent in error.

School officials told Patch the active shooter alert was sent by mistake. Officials said there is no active shooter and there is no threat to the school.

After the false report was sent out, the school sent an additional alert saying the shooter report was made in error.

Officials said it all began at about 12:33 p.m. when a balloon in the school's gym lobby set off a fire alarm.

While security and safety crews were checking the building, a student overhead another student say the alarm was due to an active shooter at about 12:43 p.m. That student reported the active shooter information to safety and security.

As security crews investigated the active shooter claim, they prepared an alert to go out to the community. However, that alert went out before the investigation determined there was no active shooter.

Within several minutes of the alert going out, a corrected alert saying there was not active shooter was sent to the community.
