Family Series Brings Magic, Disney, And More To Newtown Theatre Stage
The series opens in January with Chris Funk the Musical Magician and continues in February with Disney Hits Live.

NEWTOWN, PA — The historic Newtown Theatre opens the new year with a monthly series featuring a variety of family-friendly events. Tickets are available at TheNewtownTheatre.com . The Family Series is generously supported by Duane and Joyce Buck. Here are the events scheduled for the next few months:
- “Chris Funk the Musical Magician” – Friday, January 9 at 8 p.m. – TV magician and musical illusionist Chris Funk has appeared on NBC’s America’s Got Talent, CW’s Penn & Teller: Fool Us & Masters of Illusion, FOX’s Hell’s Kitchen and Syfy’s Wizard Wars. Chris has pioneered the use of instruments like the violin, guitar, sax and more in his illusions. Whether it’s a violin concerto to a magical dancing sheet of music to impossibly suspending various instruments on stage, his show is in a league of its own.
- “Disney Hits Live” – Sunday, February 22 at 3 p.m. – The Little Mermen is the ultimate Disney cover band for Disney fanatics of all ages. The band’s repertoire covers all 82 years of the Disney canon, including favorites from The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, Mary Poppins and Frozen. The group performs in full costume with band members dressing up as characters from the films.
- “Mad Science Returns” – Sunday, March 22 at 3 p.m. Previous Mad Science shows have sold out at the theatre. “Mad Science Returns!” will bring the same high-energy, family-friendly vibe as previous shows and feature dozens of hair-raising science experiments, chemical reactions, fantastic forces, amazing demonstrations, and plenty of audience participation. Entertaining and educational for adults and children three and over.
- “David Darwin the One-Man Sideshow” – Sunday, April 26 at 3 p.m. – David Darwin is a master of an enormous range of circus arts and comedy-juggling. With strange skills like sword swallowing and balancing chairs on his face, he is “Defying death on a daily basis!” according to The New York Times. Darwin has appeared on TV shows such as America’s Got Talent, Last Call with Carson Daly, and The Late Late Show with James Corden.
