"Fire Safety In The Home" Contest Winners Announced
Twelve Council Rock SD students won cash, movie tickets, and plaques for their best fire safety essays, posters, and more.

Twelve Council Rock School District elementary student recently won the 33rd annual Fire Safety In The Home Contest, earning themselves money, movie tickets, and plaque to commemorate their wins.
Students in the Council Rock elementary schools were invited to write essays or create posters on the subject of fire safety during National Fire Prevention Week, which is Oct. 9 through Oct. 15th.
The winning students and prizes are as follows.

First and second grade:
- 1st Place $100 cash, plaque, movie tickets: Emile Erdman,Churchville Elementary
- 2nd Place - $50 cash, plaque, movie tickets: Mariella Rapaport, Rolling Hills Elementary
- 3rd Place - $50 cash,plaque,movie tickets: Nicholas Gromosaik, Churchville Elementary
- 4th Place - $50 cash, plaque, movie tickets: Alexander Gromosaik, Churchville Elementary
Third and fourth grade:

- 1st Place $100 cash, plaque, movie tickets: Nick Altomari, Hillcrest Elementary
- 2nd Place - $50 cash, plaque, movie tickets: Faith Ortman, Hillcrest Elementary
- 3rd Place - $50 cash,plaque,movie tickets: Maria Grigoryants, Newtown Elementary
- 4th Place - $50 cash, plaque, movie tickets: Sara Tyler, Goodnoe Elementary
Fifth and sixth grade:
- 1st Place $100 cash, plaque, movie tickets: Nicole Guo, Richboro Elementary
- 2nd Place - $50 cash, plaque, movie tickets: Swara Patel, Holland Elementary
- 3rd Place - $50 cash,plaque,movie tickets: Griffin Demetsky, Welch Elementary
- 4th Place - $50 cash, plaque, movie tickets: Edan Kauer, Welch Elementary
Each school in the district submitted its top entrants for the final judging. The panel of judges was comprised of School Board Director Mark Byelich, Northampton Township Fire Marshal Frank Fenton and former Northampton Township Supervisor Pete Palestina of The Philadelphia Chapter of the Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriters Society (CPCU). Palestina is the coordinator of the contest for the CPCU organization.
CPCU is a professional insurance educational society and announced the winners with the Council Rock School Board.
The awards will be presented at the Council Rock School Board meeting of Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. and again at the Northampton Township Board of Supervisors meeting of Dec. 14 at 7:30 p.m. The Nov. 17 presentation will be held at the Chancellor Center, 30 N. Chancellor St., Newtown Borough while the Dec 14 presentation will be held at the Northampton Township Administration Building located 55 Township Road, Richboro.
In addition to the CPCU Society awards, the Townships will present special citation awards of recognition and State Senators Tomlinson and McIlhinney and Representative Petri and Santarsiero will be presenting commendations from the Pennsylvania House and Senate. In addition, municipal officials of the township in which the winners reside will also be invited to attend the Dec. 14 presentation to acknowledge the winners with citations from their respective municipalities. Congressman Fitzpatrick has also been invited to present citations.
