First Phase of Borough Redevelopment Project To Start Soon

Developer Allan Smith hopes to start the first phase of the Steeple View project in Newtown in the coming months, according to reports.

Construction on the first phase of the Steeple View redevelopment project will begin sometime during the first quarter of 2015, according to reports.

The Newtown Advance reports that developer Allan Smith hopes to break ground on the mixed-used project in the coming months.

The first phase of the project includes the construction of a three-story building with retail and residential uses at the former Stockburger site on South State Street. The first phase of the project was approved by the borough in 2013.

Just last month, Smith received approval to expand the scope of the project to include more retail and a town square in the area behind the Starbucks and Newtown Hardware House.

Those plans include the demolition of the existing State Store building and the construction of two new office and retail buildings overlooking a public square. A creek walk is also part of the plans.

The second phase of the project is not nearing construction, however, the Advance reported.
