Flash Flood Victims Memorial Service Planned In Bucks

BUCKS COUNTY, PA —A memorial service and garden dedication will mark the first anniversary of the seven people who died in the flash floods in Upper Makefield Township last July.

Township officials said the memorial service will be held on July 15, the date last year when seven people were swept away —including a mother and her two children —last year.

"Every day we remember those seven lives we lost last year," The Upper Makefield Township Police Department said.

The Crossing Church in Washington Crossing will hold the memorial service and garden dedication at 6 p.m. on July 15.

The community is invited to attend the ceremony at the church at 1895 Wrighstown Rd.

"Please join us on the one-year anniversary as we dedicate this space and reflect and honor the lives lost," the church said.

In memory of those who perished, three trees have been donated by Baumley Nursery & Landscaping to The Crossing. Two garden plaques with engraved names will be installed in this area.

Last July 15, the area was hit with a torrential rainstorm, which caused flash flooding along several areas throughout the township.

The worst of the flooding occurred along Rt. 532 in the area of Stonebridge Crossing Road between Aqueduct Road and Wrightstown Road.

Police said the flash flooding caught numerous motorists by surprise and many were trapped with the flood victims getting swept away in Houghs Creek.
