Foot Chase Ensues After Man Steals Salt, Garlic From Acme: Cops

There was a foot chase in Newtown Township on Wednesday, but the backstory is not as exciting as one would hope.

The chase ensued through the shopping area near the Acme Supermarket after a witness observed an elderly man taking four bottles of sea salt and two garlic gloves without paying, police said. According to authorities, John Malyczkowicz, 72, of Huntingdon Valley was charged with retail theft. It's his third retail theft arrest.

The alleged theft happened just before 4 p.m. The total value of the stolen items was $22.84.

Malyczkowicz has been released on $2,500 unsecured bail.
