Four Motorists Arrested, Fraudulent Activity Reported: Newtown Police

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — The Newtown Township Police Department reported the following incidents and arrests between Dec. 30 and Jan. 5:

December 30

  • At approximately 10:45 p.m. police conducted a traffic stop on a Ford pick-up truck operator for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of Durham Road and Municipal Drive. Upon speaking with the operator, an officer detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. The operator was unable to perform field sobriety tests satisfactorily and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence, police said. The operator refused to submit blood for chemical testing. Charges are pending.

  • At approximately 2 a.m. police conducted a traffic stop on a Nissan sedan operator for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of Walnut Avenue and German Avenue. As a result of the investigation, the operator was taken into custody on an active arrest warrant from the Bucks County Sheriff’s Department. Suspected narcotics and drug paraphernalia were also discovered and seized as evidence. Charges are pending evidence results.

January 1

  • At approximately 3:30 a.m. police conducted a traffic stop on a Mercedes-Benz sedan operator for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of the Newtown Bypass and Buck Road. Upon speaking with the operator, an officer detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. The operator was unable to perform field sobriety tests satisfactorily and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results.
  • At approximately 5:30 a.m. police and fire department personnel were dispatched for a townhouse fire in the Headley Trace development. The Newtown Emergency Services were assisted at the scene by firefighters from Yardley-Makefield, Langhorne-Middletown, Northampton, Upper Makefield, William Penn, Penndel, and Falls Township until the fire was extinguished. One person was found deceased. The fire is under a joint investigation by the Newtown Emergency Services Department, the Bucks County Fire Marshal’s Office, and the Newtown Township Police Department.
  • At approximately 3:45 p.m. police conducted a traffic stop on a Ford Escape operator for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of Upper Silver Lake and Penns Trail North. As a result of the investigation, a small amount of suspected marijuana was discovered and seized as evidence. The operator was cited.

January 4

  • At approximately 12 p.m. police were dispatched to La Chele Medical Aesthetics located on South Eagle Road for the report of a retail theft. The total value of loss was $143. The investigation is ongoing.
  • A Newtown Township resident stopped by police headquarters shortly after 1:15 p.m. to report fraudulent purchases made with their identity. The resident was not held responsible for the purchases once the police report was generated.
  • A Newtown Township resident stopped by police headquarters around 1:45 p.m. to report a fraud involving someone trying to open bank accounts in their name. The bank accounts were subsequently closed and the resident was advised to contact identity theft services provided by TransUnion, Experian, and Equifax. Police also advised the resident to contact the PA Identity Theft Hotline at 1-877-438-4338.

January 5

  • At approximately 10:15 a.m. police were dispatched to the Newtown Beer Store, located on South Eagle Road, for the report of stolen pallets. An investigation is ongoing.
  • A Wrightstown Township resident stopped by police headquarters around 6:45 p.m. to report a fraudulent check they received in the mail. The fraudulent check was received for a Craigslist listing they had posted. The resident did not suffer a monetary loss.
  • At approximately 9:45 p.m. police conducted a traffic stop on a Ford Mustang operator for committing a vehicle code violation in the area of the Newtown Bypass and Buck Road. As a result of the investigation, the operator was taken into custody on an active arrest warrant from the Bucks County Sheriff’s Department and was transferred into their custody without incident.
