Fradulent Activity Reported By Newtown Township Police

Police reported the following incidents between June 30 and July 5.

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — The Newtown Township Police Department reported the following incidents between June 30 and July 5:

Friday, June 30

  • A Newtown Township resident reported an incident of fraud. The resident explained that she received emails about a cell phone purchase but assumed they were spam and deleted them. A package was then delivered to her address and an unknown man approached her stating the box contained a cell phone that was delivered in error and that he would be taking it back. The resident later learned that a cell phone account was fraudulently opened in her name. The resident was able to cancel the account and notified her bank and the credit bureaus about the unusual activity.

Monday, July 3

  • At approximately 3 p.m. police were contacted in regards to a potential fraud that occurred at a bank in Newtown. The investigation is ongoing.
  • At approximately 4 p.m. a Newtown Township resident contacted police to report a theft. The resident explained that their catalytic converter was stolen in March.

Wednesday, July 5

  • A Newtown Township resident contacted police around 9:15 a.m. to report a case of fraud. The resident explained that someone hacked into her Facebook and received emails about attempts to access some of her other accounts. The resident notified her bank before any suspicious financial activity took place and there was no monetary loss.
