Fraud Cases Headline Newtown Township Police Report
Police investigated the following fraud complaints between July 21 and 27.
NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — Fraud cases continue to dominate the local police report. In one case, an unknown person gained access to a home computer and attempted to transfer $10,000 from a bank account. In another case, a resident reported the loss of $2,000 from an incident of fraud involving Instagram.

July 21

- At approximately 4 p.m. a Newtown Township resident contacted police to report a fraud. An unknown person gained access to his home computer and attempted to transfer $10,000 out of his bank account. The transfer was terminated once the bank was notified, and there was no monetary loss.
July 24
- A Newtown Township resident contacted police at approximately 9:45 a.m. to report fraudulent purchases from their bank account. The bank investigated the matter and did not hold the resident responsible for the purchases.
July 25

- A Newtown Township resident contacted police at approximately 8:45 a.m. to report an incident involving fraud. The resident explained that he received a contract and bill for a cell phone account and a purchase that he did not make. The cell phone company is investigating the matter.
- Police were dispatched to Mid Penn Bank in Newtown Township at 4:45 p.m. for the report of a fraud attempt. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
July 27
- A Newtown Township resident responded to headquarters around 8:30 a.m. to report a fraud involving extortion on Instagram. The total value of the loss was $2,000. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
