Fraud, Scams, And A DUI Arrest: Newtown Township Police Report

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — The Newtown Township Police Department reported the following incidents and arrests between July 17 and July 22:

July 17

At approximately 4:45 p.m., a Newtown Township resident stopped by police headquarters to report fraud. He explained that his phone and cards were stolen while he was on vacation in South Carolina, and he had several fraudulent charges on those cards since. A report was made to document the incident.

July 18

At approximately 8:45 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop on the driver of a Honda Odyssey in the area of Brandywine Boulevard and the Newtown Bypass. As a result of the investigation, the driver was taken into custody on an arrest warrant from the Delaware County Sheriff’s Department without incident.

July 20

At approximately 12:15 p.m., police were dispatched to a business in Wrightstown for the report of fraud involving a mailed check. A report was made to document the incident.

At approximately 2 p.m., police were dispatched to a home in Newtown Township for the report of disorderly conduct. As a result of the investigation, no charges were filed.

At approximately 3:30 p.m., a Newtown Township resident contacted police to report a scam attempt. She explained that someone called claiming that she missed jury duty and would be arrested unless she left work immediately to comply with their instructions. The resident was suspicious and questioned the caller, who then hung up. Police advised that this is a very common scam currently making the rounds.

July 21

At approximately 10 a.m., a Newtown Township resident stopped at police headquarters to report a theft involving an EZ-Pass transponder. The investigation is ongoing.

July 22

At approximately 8:15 a.m., police were contacted regarding a fraud attempt that occurred at a bank in Newtown Township the previous day. The investigation is ongoing.

At approximately 1 p.m., a Newtown Township resident stopped at police headquarters to report fraud. The total value of loss was over $20,000, and the investigation is ongoing.

At approximately 4 p.m., a Wrightstown Township resident stopped at police headquarters to report fraud. The total value of loss was over $35,000. An investigation is ongoing.
